Dewberry has announced that Associate Jerry Mrykalo, PE, PTOE, has been named the 2018 Rising Star by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Virginia, a statewide association of professional engineering firms.
Mrykalo is a transportation engineer based in the firm's Fairfax, Virginia, office where he leads the mid-Atlantic traffic engineering group.
The Rising Star award recognizes outstanding firm professionals who significantly contribute to their company's success and exhibit leadership skills that make them future key players in Virginia's engineering profession.
"Jerry exemplifies the qualities of a Rising Star through his commitment to his firm, to the engineering profession, and to the community. We are pleased to recognize his achievements with this award," said Nate Dumas, PE, Chairman of ACEC Virginia's Next Generation Committee.
Mrykalo has served as lead traffic engineer on more than 35 projects with a combined construction value of more than $1 billion, including the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project (Phase 2), the Intercounty Connector, I-64 Widening, and I-66 Widening. He was the lead traffic engineer for the Route 27/244 Interchange modification in Arlington, which won a Design-Build Institute of America National Award of Merit, and served as the lead traffic engineer for the I-95/Telegraph Road interchange of the Woodrow Wilson Bridge project, awarded a 2014 ACEC National Recognition Award. He has served as lead traffic engineer or engineer-of-record on 25 design-build projects in Virginia.
Mrykalo obtained his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the Pennsylvania State University (2005). He is a professional engineer in Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, and Virginia, and is a Professional Traffic Operations Engineer and an American Traffic Safety Services Association Traffic Control Design Specialist (Virginia).
