Montgomery County recently broke ground on the construction of the 3rd District Police Station. With five years of planning design and development, this will be the first new police station in Montgomery County, Maryland, in the past 30 years.
The 32,844 square-foot building will consist of two floors: the first floor will be operation and patrol-based, and the second floor will encompass investigative units, staff support, and administration.
To achieve LEED® Silver certification, the facility will incorporate several features to increase efficiency, including a vegetation covered roof, water-efficient plumbing features, and an energy-efficient building envelope. To create a natural buffer between the police station and neighboring residential areas, a four-acre forest conservation easement will be maintained on the west and north side of the facility.
Construction is expected to be complete in the fall of 2013.
