Four projects in Oklahoma designed by Dewberry have been recognized by the Associated Builders & Contractors (ABC) for excellence in construction. The Helmerich Sea Lion Cove at the Tulsa Zoo won a national Eagle Award for Excellence in Construction; the expansion and modernization of the Oklahoma State University Student Union in Stillwater received an ABC Eagle Award from the state chapter; and two projects for Union Public Schools in Broken Arrow—the tennis center at Union High School and the fine arts addition at the Union 6th/7th Grade Center—also earned Oklahoma ABC Eagle Awards.
Dewberry's design of the new Helmerich Sea Lion Cove at the Tulsa Zoo provides a temperature-controlled environment that includes a 75,000-gallon salt water tank, natural rock formations, underground viewing caves, and a walkout viewing platform. Flintco, LLC, served as the construction manager.
The Oklahoma State University Student Union, among the largest student unions in the world, was recently transformed through a complete renovation and the addition of 33,000 square feet of space. The facility, which opened in 1950, has since been named the nation's "No. 1 Most Amazing Campus Student Union" according to BestCollegeReviews.org. Dewberry designed the modernization with Workshop Architects. Flintco served as the construction manager.
The two Union Public School projects focused on Union High School and the school system's 6th/7th Grade Center. Dewberry designed an innovative tennis center for the high school, including a 5,000-square-foot training and support facility with indoor and outdoor spectator areas overlooking eight courts. For the 6th/7th Grade Center, Dewberry designed a renovation and addition for the Fine Arts program. Five band and orchestra classrooms were added, with practice rooms, storage, offices, and support facilities. Flintco also provided construction management services for these two projects.
