Dewberry recently provided building commissioning for the Center for Design Innovation's (CDI's) new building in the Innovation Quarter of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. A multi-campus research center within the statewide University of North Carolina system, the building officially opened with a ceremony on September 23, 2015.
Dewberry provided new building commissioning for the CDI building from construction through warranty. The firm's energy solutions professionals reviewed submittals for commissioned equipment; identified system improvements; and inspected equipment during construction, installation, and startup. Dewberry also performed functional performance testing, TAB verification, refrigerant line pressure testing, controls point-to-point checkout and calibration, as well as HVAC testing, adjusting, and balancing to ensure indoor air quality.
Dewberry's commissioning solutions maximized the energy efficiency of the building's many sustainable technologies, including high-efficiency HVAC systems, lighting controls, and daylight designs. Eaton Corporation provided new building commissioning review during design development, 50 percent construction document, and 95 percent construction document phases.
CDI's constituent campuses include the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and Winston-Salem State University. The center also collaborates with Forsyth Technical Community College.
