The Lockport Township Park District and members of the Lockport, Illinois, community recently celebrated the opening of the new Dellwood Park Community Center. Designed by Dewberry, the 20,750-square-foot facility features a full-size gymnasium; three preschool classrooms; a multipurpose space that can be divided for classes, workshops, senior activities, and special events; a kitchen; and administrative space.
The building is set within the popular, 200-acre Dellwood Park near the Challenge Fitness Center, also designed by Dewberry. A small administrative building that housed the park district offices, also located on the site, was recently demolished in anticipation of a 4,400-square-foot administrative addition to the community center, for which construction recently began. When complete, park district staff will relocate to the new space in the community center.
Dewberry provided architecture; interior design; structural engineering; and mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection engineering for the community center.
