MEP: An Intern’s Perspective

As a rising junior at Penn State University, majoring in architectural engineering, my professional internship at Dewberry has been a mind-changing experience. I’ve applied the information I learned in school to real projects. When I first came here, I thought I was going to do the same task for two months. I was pleasantly surprised about the number of MEP projects I worked on, and also how involved I became. I learned how Dewberry designs their HVAC systems and why they perform more efficiently when compared to other systems. Even though I worked mostly on mechanical engineering projects, I also got some exposure with electrical and plumbing, especially when it came to coordination of the three.

My passion for the building industry led me to major in architectural engineering–a passion that has only strengthened with this internship. My learning experience was very valuable, but getting to know the people I worked with was what I’ll remember most. Everyone in the office was always willing to give me a hand. I’ll really cherish the experience I had and the friends I made at Dewberry.
