Dewberry has announced that Bill Fissel, PE, was named Associate of the Year by the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA). Fissel retired in February from his role as senior vice president and branch manager of the firm's Leesburg, Virginia, office.
Fissel accepted the award at NVBIA's annual gala. The award is presented each year to an associate (non-builder) member who provides significant contribution and participation in NVBIA's programs, activities, and leadership. Fissel has served on numerous NVBIA committees and is a past president of the Loudoun chapter.
Fissel was also recently honored by the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors for his 20 years of service as chairman of the Loudoun County Facilities Standards Manual Public Review Committee, a volunteer group that aids the county in updating the regulations governing the design and construction of land development projects within Loudoun.
At Dewberry, Fissel provided quality assurance/quality control services on numerous projects and directed the Leesburg office, including the coordination of planning activities, feasibility studies, rezonings, special exceptions, conceptual design studies, and preliminary subdivisions for both residential and commercial properties in Loudoun and surrounding counties.
Dewberry leaders have a long history of affiliation with NVBIA and recognition with this award. Doug Fahl, Dewberry executive vice president, retired, was recognized with the award in 1991, and Sidney O. Dewberry, the firm's founder, received the award in 1988.
