MassDOT's I-93 Fast 14 was an ambitious design-build bridge replacement project that replaced 14 bridge superstructures along I-93 in Medford, at a record-setting pace - completing in one summer what might typically require four to five years.
The initiative showcased accelerated bridge construction through the innovative use of prefabricated modular units. The superstructure replacements were carried out over ten summer weekends of construction limiting the major work to 55-hour weekends, minimizing disruption to residents and weekday commuters along the heavily traveled highway.
