Main Library at Goodwood

Reinventing the Library as a Destination
Baton Rouge, Louisiana

The Main Library at Goodwood, the flagship facility for the East Baton Rouge Parish Library System, is a three-story, 126,000-square-foot building. As part of the Library Design Collaborative—a joint venture of Dewberry, Cockfield Jackson Architects, and Tipton Associates—we provided programming, interior architecture, interior design, furniture design, and audio-visual to enhance the library's inviting atmosphere and create functional spaces within the building.

The Main Library at Goodwood houses more than 500,000 books, movies, electronic resources, and circulating artwork. The $35.8-million building was designed as a community destination that would appeal to all ages and support lifelong learning. The library also houses a 300-person meeting room, career center, reading room, technology lab, children’s and teen rooms with LED light displays, 140 personal computers, and 3-D printing.

Highlights of the design include stained glass windows and a recycled paper waterfall spanning three floors.
