Originally built in 1974, the Pekin Public Library hadn't been renovated or updated in its 40-year history. The library was lacking meeting and dedicated staff space. It also had rooms that were too small for their function and a second floor that was inaccessible to the public. The renovations we designed addressed the library's needs. A new elevator and central staircase were included in the design so the second floor is more easily utilized by the public. In addition, the children's area has been expanded and now has plenty of natural light and outside views. A section for young adults was created, devoting a space for crafts, computers, and games.
