Since its opening in 2000, the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Virginia had experienced significant overcrowding. We worked with the Jail Authority from the initial planning and needs assessment phases through design and construction of the expanded facility. The challenge involved nearly doubling the rated capacity of the jail within a tight site constrained by steep topographic features. Design-build delivery through Virginia's Public-Private Education Facilities and Infrastructure Act accelerated completion of the 432-bed expansion and locked in construction pricing.
